More Free Stuff

Fair trade music site NoiseTrade.com is offering album downloads for free if you tell 3 friends, or you can pay what you want… Seriously.  Out of the 18ish albums available, I only recognize 2 - Derek Webb (Caedmon’s Call) and Waterdeep.  You can prieview the others though.

I know what you’e thinking… If I give out my friends email addresses, they’ll get a ton of spam because of me.  Well, maybe.  I put in 3 of my junk email addresses to get the Derek Webb album (more to see if I would get spammed than to cheat the system) and as of today, I haven’t gotten any more emails to those addresses.  NoiseTrade’s policy is that they don’t keep the email addresses.  They send out the one email and then delete it from their system…  We’ll see. You can always name your price for the album too.

Happy 4th!

Let’s not forget the 2 who made us free…

Only 2 defining forces have offered to die for you:
1. Jesus Christ
2. The American GI
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom…

Happy Friday

I need to start this in my office…

Connections

images Sometimes it amazes me how intertwined the internet has made us. Here’s an example:

One of my favorite blogs is The FAIL Blog. Some of the pictures and video’s are absolutely hysterical. Most of the content is reader submitted and when someone submits something that gets posted, they usually put a thanks to who submitted it and a link to their website if they have one.  So as I’m reading through the blog, I see a link to a submitters site - clicky click - and end up at TryHarderToSuckLess.com

Sounds interesting - let’s have a look around.

There’s some personal stories, YouTube clips, etc., like any personal blog.  I click on the About page and the authors bio pops up.  First thing he mentions about himself - he’s a Christian.

I just thought it was kind of neat that out of the billions of web pages out there, I click on the link to a fellow Brother in California through something as “out there” as the FAIL Blog.

With things like Twitter and Facebook doing nothing but gaining momentum, I think the old saying that we’re 7 people away from knowing everyone in the world might drop a person or two in short time.

Change

Got this in my inbox tonight…

Left? Right? Who cares…  This is funny.

News you can(t) use

From the Joliet Herald News:

The Plainfield police called on the assistance of a psychic in the their quest to find missing mom Lisa Stebic. The state police have no such plans to exploit the spirit world in their attempt to locate Stacy Peterson, the missing Bolingbrook mother they have been trying to track down.

But where the state police fear to tread, Pulse steps in.

We consulted with psychic Joann Fabritz .

Fabritz has 30 years in the futures business and tells fortunes on Fridays in downtown Lemont’s H & H Family Restaurant. She also offers consultation through her Web site, www.joannesp.com.

Fabritz said she has stopped paying attention to the highly publicized plight of Stacy’s husband, Drew Peterson, “because the guy’s so cunning and he knows psychology and it makes me sick that the television news is falling right into his game.”

Even so, she says Peterson’s disembodied head paid her a visit while Fabritz was meditating at home not long ago.

She spoke with the head, and later locked in on Peterson’s subconscious with the use of her tarot cards. Fabritz related some interesting insights. When told what the psychic had to say about him and his missing wife, Peterson replied, “Unbelievable. That’s dandy.”

This is news? Way to step up your journalistic prowess, there, Herald News…

The fact that it’s in the paper is bad enough.  What I personally find more depressing is that the Plainfield police are using this woman to assist them in finding Lisa Stebic.  I sure hope her services were gratis, because if I was a Plainfield resident, I’d be mighty miffed knowing my tax dollars were going to a lady that talks to disembodied heads while meditating.

Free music - Yummy!

RW_header_logo_2 The record labels and online music services are finally getting it right…  DRM-free music.  What’s DRM you ask? Digital Rights Management.  Basically, when you buy music online, it’s encrypted so only you can listen to it.  The problem is not all DRM is compatible with each other.  iTunes DRM is different than Napster is different than Rhapsody… You get the point.

Recently, iTunes strated selling DRM free music. Amazon then followed suit and now Rhapsody.  What’s this mean? You can buy your music from anyone and play it on any computer or MP3 player.  It’s a good thing - trust me.

So why bring it up? Rhapsody just opened their DRM-free store and they’re giving away a free cd if you create an account.  There are no strings attached other than you have to give them a CC number - nothing will be charged unless you decide to buy music.  I just signed up and I have a $10 credit in my account. If I decide to buy music after I use my credit, then I’ll be charged. If you just use the credit and close the account, though… Free music!

Here’s a linky:

$10 credit for creating a Rhapsody account

UPDATE: The offer was good until the 4th… So at this point, YMMV.  Sign up at your own risk - you may not get the $10 credit.

Happy Friday - Black and Blue Pt. 2

Let’s hope this weekends series goes a little different from last weekends…

I was sent a pretty funny video from one of the Cubbie fans in the office.  Sadly, I can’t argue much.
